Recentlythe Cairns Iris System was featured on the NBC television show Dateline. Shortly after the program aired the Bangor Fire Department was contacted by Ann Clark and Deedee Amaro who expressed an interest in conducting a fund raiser t0 purchase these units for the Bangor Fire Department. Ann Clark has participated in fund raising before -and has several ideas o raising money. some of those ideas, include asking for donations having benefit dinners and holding raffles. The Bangor Fire Department is hosting a demonstration of the Cairns Iris System on April 29, 1996.. This date has also been chosen as the starting day for the fund raising. The demonstration will begin with a representative from Cairns Iris conducting a Classroom session starting at 9:00 AM at Central Fire. At 1:00 PM we will m a the session to the training facility for a hands on demonstration. The fire departments from surrounding towns have been invited and some will be attending emonstration. I have enclosed enough copies of the information pertaining to the Cairns Iris System for all of the councilors to review. Could you please schedule us at the Municipal ops meeting so we may answer any questions o concerns. If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to contacl.,me. rey A. Cammack, Asst. Chief ' 96-224 CAft—U Thd What You Need To See" Friday, February 16, 1986 Mc Mark Dunbar Bangor Fire Department 288 Main St. Bangor, ME 04401 Dear Lt. Dunbar Thank you for your inquiry On the CairnslRlSTa, our helmet mounll Infrared, Thermal Imaging System, that allows smeri erv.Y services personnel to literally SEE through any smoke that may be filling any space, mom or builtling. We are prepared to Conduct orvsite demonstrations for your company and if requested, for your rcieNnrlushial base, to help you in gathering their support for this revolutionary equipment. Additionally, we can pmvitle literature and video tape showing CairndRlSTM applications and bereaits to your company and community. For the That time in the history of Me US Fire Services, a firefighter can enter a smoke filled atmosphere and be able IO SEE Me fumishirgs, stairs and railings, windows 6 doors (even dolor hinged, victims in distress, other freighters, hose lines, sprinkler piping and heads. In fact May are able to see every detail as though there weren't any smoke at all. Imagine how It ability to SEE will speed up Me process of searching rooms for victims instead of having to "kel" our way in the dark and expanding our legs and arms to sweep an areal Place yourself in a high rise or any office building, with its cubicles and Other subdivisions, and vision movingdown the aisle, stopping at each entrance and "looking" Into the space to determine if a victim is in nen of help. Think about editing a smoldering fire in a warehouse or other large space and then being able to lead a hose one team directly to the area infected. How about the reduction in water and other property damage. Won't your firefighters be pleased to accomplish their job in much less than halt the time, and be able t0 get back 10 the statim with less stress and wear 8 tear than ever before, not to mention the reduction Of elmOsure and wear & tear on your equipment. In a hazardous materials incident you can actually see the vapor cloud being given off which allows yen to more accurately plan evamatims On a plenty basis and to establish the area to be diked to hold any anticipated spill. You can determine lf hazardous materials are leafing, through the detection of any heat source being given off either one or multiple materials Interacting. We can even see any Openings in a vehicle transpar ing to determine where the vapors are escaping through its flooring, walls, mo, all before we commit a single individual. All Of this and more is available with the CairnstRISha Thermal Imaging System which senses heat differences in the Infrared range, that area of the spectmm net visible to the human eye. CairnslRlST^^ senses temperature differences as little as one hal degree fil and constantly mergers; the background temperature in any space, evening across this spectrum. This averaging allows your personnel to ICM directly at the heat source and not have the image, projected on the helmet mounted "beads -up display', white out so the image is lost The printed rcuitry and ceramic chip design makes the difference in CairnslRlSTa, where vacuum tube lechnolOgy used in earlier hand held systems simply cannot respond and therefore after whiting Out the image, your end user mustwail for the unit to reset itself Notlhecasewith Carrol ISTN, and in fact you can look directly at the source and still see all that is between you A Division of Claims & Brother Mc. Everything around us absorbs heat at different rates and also reflects beat at OiRerent rates. This is a natural occummuse that infrared technology makes use ofin allowing us to SEE Mis happening. Dant worry about this system's balminess On the faegroonds, it hes been field tested for over a year at Atlanta, CA Fire Department in everything Iron training evolution's to actual fire service and it has never failed to withstand the heal and liters demanded of it by the fire service. CwmsIRISM will absolutely change me way we fight Nes and each department will iii its tactics"an they heated him much they are able to determine from this system. Asanexample of bow this will happen, each CamsIRlSw° system includes a "RNC" coax cable connection that allows the identical image, being seen by your firefighter, to be shown on a TV monitor at your cor mand post. Now the rnmmandmg officers on any fireground will be able to see what they e up against and can adjust their tactics to gain the advantage. And sinceweareableto bring this image to a remote N location we are also able to record all that is being seen. Imagine using this tool in your training programs where the fire service instructor can SEE what is happening in the bum building and then be able to review it with Mom involved through the vuhmoscordhg. Think about the future of the fire service reporting systems and documentation of avert when youareable to acmaltyrecordwfietwas seen. W0n3 fire investigators and insurance companies appreciate your ability to show them Items such as. how many separate fires were located were doms/aindows reiMerced to slow your entry, was there inventory to the building, were any sprinkler system sectional slops shut down to allow the greater headway, em. As we are sure you will agree, CaimslRISM opens up many avenues and provides a litany Of benefits to the emergency services, never before available. We alsorealtsa Matwords are meaningless until you have the opportunity to review CairosIRISR with Other members of your department and in the actual Wm Wilding- With that in mind, we would like to offer you and your department members our services in scheduling a demonstration of this remarkable technology and all you need is a toothy where you are able to create the smoke and heat for your members to wear CatmsIRlSTM into. We will supply our personnel and equipment to demonstrate and to explain its operating principles. In fact, if you would like to sponsor e demonstration of this naWre I will be happy to conduct a mailing to those depanmanls within a sixty mile range of your facility, so Mat others can view this system far themselves. Please feel free to contact our office at am time so Mat we may answer your questions or to schedule a demonstration. Thanks again for your Inquiry, we really appreciate your effort to team more about CatmslRISre. Please feel free l0 cooled away our representatives. In terms of saving lives, the CairnsiRiS is the most significant advancement in firefighting tech. nology in this century. FASTER AND SAFER FIREFIGHT Smoke and darkness no longer inhibit the firefighter from seeing the thermal image of the fire, and its potential victims. With the CairnsiRiS, size -up is faster and ore effective... one look at the structure gives you the point of entry more quickly. This fully in. tegrated, battery powered system will withstand severe changes in fireground conditions without shutdown. ADDITIONAL USES The CairnsiRiS goes beyond the fireground. Training Is made easier and more accurate by giving the instructor the ability to see, and record the firefighter's activities. HAZMAT operations are enhanced ...you can see the vapor clouds from spills. And the CairnsiRiS is also versatile for commercial and Industrial applications as well.
