Commwity Economic Development- Code ENbrcavent Commentary: This ordinance amendment provides for the adoption of the most recent edition of the National Electrical Code. The Code is updated every three years. The State of Maine has completed adoption of the NEC 19%. In accordance with Title 30 N.R.S.A. 5 3156, as amended, the "National Electric Cede 1996, 1996 Edition, designated as NFPA 70 - 1999 1996 Rod prepared by the National Fire Protection Association, is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference, as the minimum standards for electrical installations within the boundaries Of the City of Bangor. For Purposes of this Ordinance, the term melectrical installations" shall mean the installation, repair, alteration and maintenance of electrical conductors, fittings, installation of optical fibre cable, devices and fixtures for heating, lighting, power purposes or heat activated fire alarms and electrically supervised manual fire alarms and sprinkler systema. They shall not include the installation or repair of portable electrical equipment, imtallation of which involves only the insertion of an attachment plug into a fixed receptacle outlet. it is the ening and intent of this Section that the word "portable" shall not include or apply to any type of fixed electrically operated Or driven equipment. Sec. 4 Enforcement Authori tv. The B£reater-ef-Eede-8nfereemeat Code Enforcement Officer and his authorised agent(a) including but not limited to the Electrical Inspector established under Chapter II, Article 17, Sec. 3.1 shall have the power and duty to enforce the provisions of this code. 96-179 Sec. 6 Enforoormant Procedure.whenever the Bireetea-e€-Cede Br£aseement Code Enforcement Officer or his authorized agent(s) should determine that there is a violation of any provisions of said Code, he/they shall give written notice of such violation to the property Owner, leasee, occupant or their agents. .Such written notice shall: Sec. 7 Civil Penalties. The requirements of 30-M,R,S,A.-89966 30-A M & 9 A 9 4453 Shall apply to the dstermination of penalties for violations of this Ordinance. The minimum penalty for a Specific violation Of this Ordinance shall be $100 and the maximum penalty shall be $2,5001 provided, however, the maximum penalty may exceed $2,500, but shall not exceed $25,000 when it can be shown that there has been a previous conviction of the same party within the past two (2) years for violation of theauses Ordinance provision. Range and clothes dryer outlets have to be supplied with few conductor cables with the neutral insulated. Working space has to be provided above the disconnecting means and panel boxes. At leas[ one outlet shall be located not less than five feet or more than ten feet from the inside wall of spa or hot rob. Wiring located above a ceiling assembly stud not be laid on or secured to the selling assembly. Wiring above suspended ceilings must be supplied with Independent support. Conductors of different systems shall riot occupy the same raceway, when am of the systems is rated greater then 600 volts.
