Accepting and Appropriating a Grant in the amount of $125,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) to Implement Drug Free Communities Program
Summary
This resolve will accept and appropriate $125,000 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) to establish and strengthen local efforts to prevent youth substance use in Bangor,
Brewer, Hampden, and Hermon. This is the first of a five-year grant totaling $625,000 which is renewable
annually for $125,000 each year. The term of the first year is September 29, 2017 to September 28, 2018.
This is the second five-year grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The
grant will support the ongoing work of the Drug Free Communities coalition in the Greater Bangor region that
was established in 2012. This item was reviewed and referred for full council action at the October 2, 2017
Government Operations Committee meeting.

Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Bangor that,
Cathy Conlow, City Manager, is hereby authorized to execute a contract with the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)in the amount of $125,000 to implement the Drug Free Communities
Program in Bangor, Brewer, Hampden and Hermon.
