ORDINANCE, Amending Chapter 33, Code of Ethics, By Adding Section 33-5.1 Unbiased Conduct
WHEREAS, people have the right to be treated fairly, impartially, equitably and without bias by those who
work for the City in any capacity.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, THAT
Chapter 33 of the Code of the City of Bangor be amended as follows:
By adding the following:
§ 33-5.1 Unbiased Conduct
The purpose of this provision is to clearly establish the expectation of unbiased, fair, impartial, and equitable
treatment of all persons.
City Councilors, City employees, board members, and commission members shall conduct themselves in a
manner that does not discriminate unlawfully against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, national
origin, age, physical or mental disability, genetic information, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation,
socioeconomic status, cultural group, or political status.
All persons, irrespective of personal characteristics or other distinctions, to include, but not limited to, race,
ethnic background, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status,
aae, cultural group, or political status shall be treated in the same basic manner under the same or similar
circumstances.
