Summary
This ordinance would amend the Code of Ethics to provide that City Councilors and their appointees conduct
themselves in a non-partisan manner in their roles as public officials. The City's Ethics ordinance presently
provides that City Councilors and their appointees be fair and impartial. Recently, the Ethics Committee met and
reviewed the existing ordinance. They are recommending that this amendment be included to clarify that elected
officials and their appointees also act in a non-partisan manner.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, THAT
Chapter 33 of the Code of the City of Bangor be amended as follows:
By adding the following:
& 33-1.1 Non- Partisanship

important for the public confidence in their conduct in fulfilling their duties. In fulfilling their duties
and obligations to the citizens of the City of Bangor, City Councilors and their appointees are
expected to maintain the non-partisan structure and intent of Bangor's form of local governance. To
