Commentary:
The Bangor Area Information Resources Network (BAIBNET) is anon profit,
volunteer organization whose purpose is to create a community on-line
computer network. BAIENET has received a federal matching grant of
$14,290 to purchase equipment. Requests for support have gone to a wide
range of businesses and communities. They have requested $1,000 from
Bangor. Additional information on the project is attached.
Municipal Operations has heard a presentation from BAIRNET's
representatives and has forwarded this request to the full Council. The
discussion at Municipal Operations focused on whether the City should
support this effort and, if so, the amount which should be provided.
The attached Order would provide $1,000.
