Ring City Engineer RE: Council Order -Renaming Westland Avenue I have prepared a Council Order which would authori a renaming of Westland Avenue. CLrrwly vne have two public streets, Westland Avenue and Westland Strutt which are in close prmdtnity to each other. Westland Avenue two between Union Street and Maine Avenue, and Westland Streeetuns between Union Stred and Ohio Street. The similarity of these street canes has caused some confusion and problems for some residents. This issue was that raised 2 or 3 years no by Barbara Cyr who lives at W Westland Street, Mrs. Cyr had experienced some problems with deliveries, etc. buvam her address and No. 16 Westland Avenue, which is the only address on Wondered Avenue. This was diswssed at the time, and it was recommended that consideration be given to renaming Westland Avenue. There was some subsequent staff discussion relative to a new name for Westland Avenue but final action was not taken to make this change During this period have also been working on addressing a serious drainage problem on Westland Street which was adversely impacting the Cyr's property. This has been concerted through a project undertaken last faLl. Earlier this week I was again contacted by Mm. Cyr relative to the unresolved street name issue. Apparently they have recently experienced another incident arising firm confusion due to the street names. My attention has seemingly been more focused on solving the drainage problem, sed I have given a written apology to Mrs. Cyr for the length of time that has elapsed on the street rehemiug issue with the assurance that it would be vigorously pursued to resolution. I have also contacted the owner of the building a 16 Westland Avenue to inform beer of the issue and pending recurring of Westland Avenue. This property is currently up for seta The owner, Mrs. Macy, now lives in Arizona and has indicated then she is very much in favor of the proposed name change. Discussion of the attached Commit Order is on the March 5 Municipal Operations Committee Agenda and is anticipated to be considered for firm) action on the March 13 Council Agenda. IDA
