Supporting a Grant Application from Husson University to the Maine Technology Institute, Asset Fund, for $4
million to develop and Construct a New Business School at Husson University
Summary
This Resolve supports Husson University's application to the The Maine Technology Asset Fund for $4
million to support construction of a New Business School on the Bangor campus. In April 2016, Maine
enacted LD 1053, "An Act to Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue to Stimulate Investment in
Innovation Maine Businesses to Produce Nationally and Globally Competitive Products and Services."
In June 2017, Maine voters supported a $45 million bond issue for investment in research,
development, and commercialization in the State.
Recently, Husson University announced plans to construct a new, state of the art, $16 million business
school at its Bangor Campus. Additionally, Husson University was the recipient of a $4 million dollar
challenge grant through the Alfond Foundation to build this new facility. One of the drivers of this
initiative was a recognition by Husson leaders that the state is lacking a skilled workforce to meet the
needs of employers. Husson has made a commitment to producing students who are job -ready and
can meet the needs of area employers.
Specifically, the Bangor City Council sees Husson University as an indispensable driver of economic
growth in our city and beyond. The University is both agile and flexible; quickly adapting to meet the
ever-changing needs of our students and the business community. Once completed, the College of
Business building will provide the advanced infrastructure and technology needed for the next
generation of Maine business leaders. An extremely well-run business, Husson University is critical to
the future growth of Bangor and Maine's economy."
