HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-10-11 Proclamation PROCLAIMING OCTOBER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH Whereas, The problem of domestic violence is not confined to any one group of people but crosses all economic, racial, gender, and societal lines; and Whereas, Violence against women and children is an especially prevalent problem in society; and Whereas, Victims should have help and support to find the compassion, comfort, and healing they need; and Whereas, Partners for Peace has served many people in our region affected by domestic abuse and continues to work to end personal, institutional, and cultural violence; and Whereas, Partners for Peace has been an integral part of our community since it incorporated in Maine in 1973 as just the third domestic violence project in the country; and Whereas, Together we affirm that domestic violence has no place in the City of Bangor. Now, Therefore, I, Joseph M. Baldacci, Mayor of the City of Bangor, on behalf of the City Council, and the citizens of Bangor, do hereby recognize October Domestic Violence Awareness Month and do hereby offer our thanks and respect to Partners for Peace, and pledge our support and cooperation for ending domestic violence in our community. th Given this day the 11 of October. __________________________________ Joseph M.
