Action Taken: HPC recommendation to City Council to list property as an historic landmark approved by a vote of 5 to 0. Item No. 2 17 High Street – Gerald and Barbara Ewing To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a detached garage as per application. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0. Item No. 3 44 Broadway – Bangor Redevelopment Corporation To consider a request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a deck and fire escape from existing second floor office space and install metal railing banisters and perches on third floor windows; replace existing freestanding sign. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval application broken into four separate motions. Motion #1: To approve Certificate of Appropriateness to construct a deck and fire escape from existing second floor office space Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted / denied by a vote of 4 to 1 with the condition that it be set back with main building. Motion #2: To approve Certificate of Appropriateness to install metal railing banisters and perches on third floor windows per application. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted / denied by a vote 3 to 2. (Four affirmative votes need for approval.) Motion #3: To approve Certificate of Appropriateness to install metal railing banisters and perches on third floor windows, except for window facing Broadway. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted /denied by a vote of 5 to 0. Motion # 4: To approve Certificate of Appropriateness to replace existing freestanding sign. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0. Item No. 4 214 Cedar Street – Steve and Lizabeth Schley To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness to remove portion of building and replace with attached garage per application. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness granted / denied by a vote of 4 to 1 with the condition that wood siding is used. Item No. 5 81 Park Street – House Revivers To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness to install a pressure treated deck with railing on the main roof of the building. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0 with the condition that it is painted to match. Item No. 6 65 Main Street – Paul Cook To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness and Design Review approval for façade improvements per application – Life safety codes require two additional exits and to paint existing metal siding per application Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0. Item No. 7 58 Broadway – Tim Harvey To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness approval to construct a handicap ramp. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness granted / denied by a vote of 4 to 1 with the condition that PVC lattice work be replaced with wood balusters and that the ramp be deemed temporary in order to provide temporary wheel chair access until property is sold. The applicant must work with HPC staff member , Jeremy Martin, to determine which balusters are appropriate. Item No. 8 193-195, 197-199 Exchange Street – Ames A/E To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness and Design Review approval for exterior and façade improvements per application. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0. Item No. 9 46 Main Street – Ames A/E To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness and Design Review for exterior and façade improvements to first floor storefront and upper three floors per application. Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness and Design Review approval granted / denied by a vote of 5 to 0. The motion and approval is for first floor storefront only work only, and requests that applicant attempt to repair and rehabilitate the existing windows and come back to HPC for approval of third floor window work. The next scheduled meeting is Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.
