PUBLIC HEARINGS
1. 1 Central Street – Giacomo’s Groceria
To consider a request for Design Review approval to replace awnings.
Action Taken: Design Review approval denied by a vote of three in favor and 2 opposed.
2. 51-53 High Street – L.G. Van Peursem, Jr.
To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness approval to replace storm
windows.
Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted by a vote of 5 to 0.
3. 144 Park Street – Northeast Building Consultants
To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness for masonry re-pointing and
window replacement.
Action Taken: Certificate of Appropriateness approval granted by a vote of 5 to 0.
3. 69 West Broadway – House Revivers
To consider a request for Certificate of Appropriateness approval for
renovations/remodeling. The proposed work to include (1) remove existing two car
garage and convert barn into garage. Add two garage doors and entry door in S.W.
elevation and door and five windows in N.W. elevation. (2) remove asbestos siding and
restore existing wood clapboards and/or replace with matching wood clapboards. (3)
replace 1960’s casement windows with new wood Norwood or equal windows. These
will be simulated divided lights with grills inside, outside and between the glass, 6/6
style. (4) new side porch entryway area. This porch will be trimmed to match the front
porch. The roof will be open to allow light to enter but from the ground will appear like a
solid roof. There will be 2 sets of double French doors with sidelights to enter this new
porch from the house. These units will be Norwood wood units or equal with inside,
outside, and between the glass grilles. (5) repair and restore existing wood double hungs
and install new Harvey triple track storm windows. (6) New roof and deck on second
floor in alcove. Trim to match front deck (7) replace roofing on N.E. side of ell shed
dormer. New roofing to match existing on house. (8) Enclose alcove in ell facing
driveway. Siding will be wood clapboards.
Action Taken The HPC reviewed the applicants request, but granted Certificate of
Appropriateness for only a portion of the work. Certificate of Appropriateness granted
by a vote of 5 to 0 to remove the asbestos siding, demolish the existing garage,
remove/replace existing second floor windows, replace roof on Northeast side of ell
shaped dormer, and approval for structural changes for the addition bump-out. The
windows on the addition were not approved.
The next scheduled meeting is Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the third floor Council
Chambers.
