The Poetic Works Department is only the City's housekeepers. They are responsible for maintaining 165 miles of streets, 200 miles of sidewalk, 62 signalized intersections, 3,005 street lights, maintaining public trees and landscaping. operating City cemelerie, and running the City's recycling program. The Department also performs significant seasonal work including snow plowing and removal, leaf collection, and spring cleanup. Over the last several years, the Department has encouraged employee involvement through a used quality management program. Examples of the success of this program Include this year's revised spring cleanup, the reorganization of the Department to allow for problems to he addressed by crews specifically assigned to geographical areae of the City, and the continuing success of our recycdiug program. The results of these Worts have become apparent this year. The review spring cleanup was a success projects often delayed to later in the spring and summer have been completed earlier improving the overall appearance of the City, our annual street paving program will begin earlier than in past years, and longer term maintenance and construction projects which have often been deferred in the past me now being performed. Finally, several times a year we have been surveying cilium who have requested action from public Works regarding their satisfaction with the Department The most recent survey, which involved work orders from May, showed a high level of satisfaction with the Department. Of the 41 responses received to date, 79.4% indicated the work bad been completed, 87.8% repeated that live Department had reapoaded in a reasonable period of time, and 92% Indicated that they were pleased with the treatment which they received from City staff. In general, that responses Indicate that the public is satisfied with the timeliness of the response and the work performed.
