In response to requests from merchants In the Waterfront Development District and in light of the future
redevelopment of waterfront properties, Code has drafter an amendment W the sign Ordinance.
Currently, businesses in the ADD are peisu ped me sign signage as the Downtown Development District.
Spxifcally, businesses are permitted one sign per side of a building which front on a public street or
parking lm. The size of the signs are restricted to two square fee of sign area per one fora of building
frontage. Free-standing signs are not pemnamed.
The sign regulators for the DDD were designed to accommodate businesses located In rows of buildings,
such as along Central, Main, and Franklin Street. However, most of the properties in the WED are nm row
buildings and the conditions In dre WDD are materially different from the conditions in the DDD which
required the suct limitations on the use and number of signs. The WDD now resembles a developing
section of the city, such as 5&P5, more than the DOD. Therefore, it seems logical W permit the Vii
have the same signage opportunities as a developing section of the city. This proposed amendment would
permit the same signage in the WDD as in the 5&PS.

5.4.1 General Requirements. Every on -promise sign created in the Districis noted above shall
