Department of Justice Crime Data Analysis Grant Responsible Department: Police Department The Bsagor Police Department is part ofthe Penobscot County Law Eafamement System (POLES) which shares a computer system. This computer system needs m be upgraded and funds are available Bum the D.S. Department of Justice. The initial application by POLES was denied because the application must be made by a municipal agency. Because the grant was due in two days from the date Ran initial application was rejected, the application has been resubmitted by the City of Burger. The tool amount of the project is $12,840 of which $4,920 is available through the grant. The meriting $7,920 would have to come out of the police department hudgm, from funds 69 have already been designated m Pay Ian membership in PCI.ES. The semi-annual bill for $20,000 will be sent out by PCLES on January 1, 1997, and the matching funds will be deduct i from the membership bill. Part II 97-45 Maine Justice Assistance Council Community Policing Subgraat Application Narrative Bangor Police Department participates in a regional computer system made up of nine law enforcement agent Connecting this computer system to the statewide e e a network will provide access for all nine agencies to the state message switch. To contact the existing computer system to the statewide a network will require secure message between the state computer system and o computer system. Thestate is changing i services and technology and w most change our technology to met state demands as well as the increased threat of compromised computer security. Funding this request will provide computer hookup to the wide area network for nine law enforcement agencies. There are basically three items we eed. One is a high speed computer platform with routing capability. The second is the equipmentto nect us to the statewide area network. The final item is custom software to allow our system to communicate wife the state sr tem. Matching fundsa from the City of Bangor operating budget.
