ADD iii 97=31 77 South Park Street Bangor, Maine 04401 September 12, 1996 Mn Gary Jewell Puking Fnforcement 35 Court Street Bangor, Maine 0,1,101 Dent Mr. Jewell, Thank you for taking the time to talk wish me on the phone today about my concern for safety for children who. use the sidewalk on South Park Street between French Street and Broadway. Since purchasing the house at 77 South Park Street in January, of 1994, I have been concerned by the fact that there is no curb separating the sidewalk from the street in front of my house and the house next to me. That concern is always heightened when I watch children walking on the sidewalk. However, Iasi week, when I witnessed a "near m6s" because a car decided to pull up and park on the sidewalk in front of my house (apparently not seeing she child on rhe sidewalk) I was prompted In call you and request an investigation of what could be done In provide more safety for pulestrians using the sidewalk in question. South Park Street curremly has no curb delineating sidewalk from street in front of two houses , but does base cubing iv front of two others. In my opinion this is hazardous as this is a fainly busy two way street, used by many cars and delivery trucks. In addition, there is parking on both sides of the street which narrows the street area. Cars which choose b park on the southeaster(?) side of the street (the side with houses) usually pull up and park on the sidewalk. I am requesting that: 1) a curb is installed in front of the houses on South Park Street =it that 2) an ordinance be instituted to restrict parking on the side of the street with houses, allowing cars to Wit oo the side of the street adjacent to the park which currently has parking pullotfs. Thank you for your time. If there is anything else than I can do to demonstrate my concerns or further clarify my request, please call me at 581-2378 (day phone). Sincerely, Nancy A. Mly
