HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BANGOR
MEETING OF FEBRUARY 16, 2017

Ms. Rettenmaier called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and asked everyone to introduce
themselves.
DISCUSSION OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION PROCESS
Mr. Nicklas presented his annual review of legal responsibilities and procedures for
Commission Members and public meeting operations.
Commissioners and City Staff discussed the Historic Preservation application and
approval process along with recent Ordinance and Staff changes. Particular Commissioner
questions discussed were: What changes could be made in the application process so that
applicants would present more complete and on point presentations when appearing before the
Commission, and, what the City could do to improve the understanding of property owners in
various districts of the requirements of City Codes and of the Secretary of the Interior’s
recommendations when thinking about changes to their buildings.

Review and Approval of HPC meeting minutes
Commissioners agreed to continue discussion of January minutes at the March meeting.
Chair Rettenmaier reminded everyone of the next meeting on March 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
