In 2016, the City of Bangor was awarded $1.4 million in Fast Act grant funds to replace five buses. The estimated cost of five buses is $2.1 million which includes $1.4 million in grant funds and $700,000 in local match to come from the cities of Bangor and Brewer. If approved, this order would also authorize the City to piggyback on the State of Connecticut Contract with Gillig. The City has utilized this method of procurement in the past for buses as it is allowed under the FTA procurement process and because the RFP process and build time for buses is significant. Piggybacking on an existing contract that was competitively awarded, significantly shortens the acquisition time line. Staff recommends approval.
