Manager Cathy Conlow, Airport Director Tony Caruso, and Marketing Manager Risteen Bahr.
Mike Boyd and Dan Cohn.
Agenda:
1. Presentation by Mike Boyd, President of The Boyd Group International: An update on
Bangor International Airport’s air service
Boyd Group International is BGR’s air service development consultant. Mr. Boyd is
well known as an expert in aviation issues. He is often called upon by the national
media to provide input events and trends affecting airlines, airports and aircraft
manufacturers.
Brief summary of the discussion:
Airport Director Tony Caruso introduced Mike Boyd to the Airport Committee members. Mike
discussed local and regional air service with the Committee. Mike discussed BGR’s current air
service status and how it has changed from five to ten years ago. For example, the average
airplane seating configuration used to be 103 and now it is closer 120. A lot of the airlines now
have consolidated or merged with other airlines and airline fleets are changing. He discussed
that an airline pilot used to only have to have about 250 hours of training and now they need
1500 hours of training! Also discussed was the Bangor to Boston flight. He indicated that there
was not enough traffic for that route. They are still continuing to work on the flight from
Bangor to Boston, given the community interest between both regions, but times have changed
and it is not the market it used to be. Also discussed was advertising strategies for the Airport.
