Item No. 98-323
Date August 10, 1998
Item/Subject: Amending Chapter II, Article 14 of the Laws and
Ordinances of the City of Bangor -- Fire Department (Lock Box)
Responsible Department: Legal
Commentary:
A lock box is a box mounted on the side of a building that will
contain a key or keys to permit access to the building to interior
doors. This will allow the Fire Department access to the building
without having to damage a door or window to gain entry or to wait
for the building owner to arrive with the key.
Having ready access to interior rooms will enable the Fire
Department to search buildings more quickly, thereby reducing their
risk of injury when inside a burning building.
The ordinance would require a lock box for new construction or in
cases of interior renovations casting $50,000.00 or more.
Already about two dozen buildings in Bangor have a lock box. The
average cost is approximately 5100.00. r^^''-•,'
