ItenvSubjec : ORDER, Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Collective Bargaining
Agreement Between the City of Bangor and Teamsters Local 340, Police Department Support Staff
Responsible Department: Administration
Commentary:
Labor negotiations with twelve Support Staff employees (Dispatchers, Secretaries, Parking Control Aides)
have resulted in a tentative agreement between the W90tiating committees. The Union formally ratified
tbe agreement on July 6th. The new agreement follows the June 30th expiration of the most recent three
year agreement. Major points of significance include: contract tem of three yeas --July 1, 1998 to June
30, 2001; wage increases of2%your one, 2% year two and 3% year three (unless a higher percentage
provided to non -anion employees); 20 More of mining for dispatchers, and 10 hours for all others;
deletion of optional eampeosarory time provision (a8 overtime pay); change in job title from police
dispatcher to public safety Werommwicator and a sick leave bonus day provision (one day off if no sick
time used in six month period).
The CityC MC9 has had an opportunity to review this proposal in executive session and the Agreement
is within City Council guidelines. The agreement is presented with the recommendation ofthe
Managwent Negotiation Team, and I would recommend its approval as well.
A copy of the Agreement will be provided separately with the Council packet./1G
