Commentary: The Department m Pars and Recreation has recently received notice that they have received
a $1,000 awad hon the Heritage Preservation's save Outdoor sculpture assessment Program. These fulls
will R used W conduct on-site pro esskmal assmsments of Me Hannibal Hamlin statue, Veterans of Foregn
Wars memorial, ant Pierce Hormonal.
Over the years, there has been discussion of Me m ed to perform maintenance and aesthed: war to there
outslandi g pudic monuments. A number dyears ago, Snow and Molloy donated funds to replace Hannibal

Dear Mr. Comeau:
We are pleased to present the City of Bangor Parks and Recreation Department a
1998 Assessment Award to conduct on -sire professional assessments of
Hannibal Hamlin (1927) by Carl Eugene Tefft, the Veterans of Foreign Wan
Memorial (1939) by Carl Eugene Tefft and the Peirce Memorial (1925) by Carl Eugene
Tefft Ron Harvey will conduct the assessment for an estimated budget of $1,000.
SOS! funds will cover up W $1,000 Of the assessment costs.
Nearly 6,000 volunteers reported a national collection of 30,000 outdoor sculpture.
Over 50 percent would benefit from treatment and 9 percent are in urgent need of care.

professional assessment is complete, your monuments will be eligible to be added m
