For several decades the locus of air pollution has been outdoor air quality. The Ideas is shifting to Indoor air
quality with the realization that we spend 9D% of our time Indoors on average and therefore she majonty of
the air pollutants we are exposed in are products of our indoor environment. For exa l le, radon is now
known to be the aanpnd leading preventable cause of lung cancer add exposure to prominecious material
produced by cenam leaders is the cause of the dramatic increase in childhood asthma acting as both a
sensitizer and trigger. In conjunction with this resolve Code Enforcement plans a number of omreach and
educational activities during October.

RESOLVED,
WHEREAS, The City of Bangor supporta a clean and safe environment and is concerned
about the quality of indoor air in all homes.
WHPRB_4S, Many sources, both of natural and human origin, Contribute to the quality
of home indoor air.
WHEREAS, Poor Indoor air quality has been identified as radon, carbon momYide,
vvirovmental tobacco ¢make, lead, asbestos, biologicals, formaldehyde, certain,
household products and Air quality problems associated from home remodeling and
incomplete combustion of residential fossil fuels.
WHEREAS, Poor air quality has chronic And acute health effects and has caused death
to humans, costa < e
s hundreds, even thousands of dollars to detect and control,
affect real estatevaluesof homes, and in general causes
unnecessary suffering
and economic burden to innocent persons who may live in bases with poor indoor air
quality.
WHEREAS, Consumer behavior greatly contributes to the overall good indoor air
quality of a home.
WHEREAS, recognizing "Indoor Air Quality Action d Awareness Month" To an opportunity
for government to join forces with business, environmental groups, community
organisations and the citizens at large to work toward healthy air for all homes.
NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TBE CITY OF
RANCOR, THAT:
The month of October in proclaimed as Nome Indoor Air Quality Action A Awareness
Month and we encourage all citizens to join in: this observance by:
*Testing homes for radon
*Cleaning, tuning, and checking home heating systems
*Stepping smoking In homes where children are present
*Participating in any other activities that Improve the quality
of air In the home
