BANGOR SCHOOL COMMI LL EE
REGULAR MEETING
7:00 p.m.,Wednesday,June 14,2017
School Committee Members present: Chairman Warren Caruso, Brian Doore, Marlene Susi, Caryn
Sychterz,and Sue Sorg.Members Sue Hawes and Jennifer DeGroff were unable to attend.
A. 1. &2. The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman Caruso at 7:02 p.m. and the
Pledge of Allegiance followed.
3.a. The Bangor School Department and the Bangor School Committee recognized the
2016-17 Maine Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year Carson Atherley.
B. Superintendent Webb requested to amend the agenda to move Met Opera Grant
approval to D.1.b.
VOTED 5-0 to amend the agenda as requested.
D. 1.a. Superintendent Webb recommended the annual approval of the Comprehensive
Education Plan.
VOTED 5-0 to approve the Comprehensive Education Plan as presented.
2.a. Superintendent Webb recommended approval of the MET Opera Grant.
Eric Hutchins and Susan Thibodeau outlined the opportunities for students and
staff through the MET Opera Grant partnership.
Members asked questions about funding and curriculum alignment.
VOTED 5-0 to approve the MET Opera Grant.
b. Superintendent Webb reported the following retirement(s):
Martin O'ConnelI Chemistry Bangor High School
c. Superintendent Webb reported the following resignation(s):
Lindsey Hackett Asst. Spring Track Coach Bangor High School
Kris Reid Swim Coach William S. Cohen School
E. 1.a. 1.-2. VOTED 4 (Caruso, Doore, Susi, Sychterz) for 0 opposed and 1 (Sorg) abstained
to approve the Minutes of the May 15,2017 Regular School Committee Meeting.
Tabled the May 31, 2017 Regular School Committee Meeting minutes until the
next meeting.

b. 1. Superintendent Webb recommended approval of the June Bid & Quotation
Report.
Members asked about bidding policy.
VOTED 5-0 to approve the bid report as presented.
c. 1. a. Superintendent Webb recommended the following Teacher nomination(s) for the
2017-2018 school year, with a one-year Probationary Contract:
Angela Smith,Special Education Resource Room Teacher at Fairmount School
Chelsea Collins,Grade 6 Teacher at William S.Cohen School
Jennifer Kolvoord, Special Education Self Contained Teacher at Downcast
Adam Kaspala,Grade 8 Social Studies Teacher at William S. Cohen School
VOTED 5-0 to approve the nominations as presented.
2. Superintendent Webb recommended approval of a Leave of Absence without pay
for Ashley Sherry, Grade 2 Teacher at Vine Street School, for personal reasons
for the 2017-2018 school year.
VOTED 5-0 to approve the leave without pay for the 2017-2018 school year.
d. Committee Member Susi shared the following donation(s):
To Downcast School from Altrusa Club of Bangor, a cash donation to purchase
books for Grade 1 students having a total dollar value of$300.
To Downcast School from Bangor Savings Bank, 57 jars of jelly and 60 jars of
peanut butter having a total dollar value of$350.
VOTED 5-0 to approve the donations with great thanks.
2.a. 1.-9. Superintendent Webb recommended receipt of first reading of the following
policies:
1. Revised Policy CBI—Evaluation of the Superintendent
2. Revised Policy EFF—Meal Prices
3. Revised Policy GDB-5—Lunch Aide Compensation Guide
4. Revised Policy GDB-6—Executive Office Compensation Guide
5. Revised Policy GDB-7—Support Staff Compensation Guide
6. Revised Policy GDB-8—Adult and Community Education Compensation Guide
7. Revised Policy GDB-10—Educational Technology Staff Compensation Guide
8. Revised Policy IGDJA—Interscholastic Athletics Admission Fees
9. Revised Policy KG—Community Use of School Facilities
VOTED 5-0 to receive the first reading of the policies.

F. 1. Superintendent Webb shared the baseball team had won the regionals and was
headed to the States on Saturday in Augusta and would be facing Falmouth in a
rematch at 2 p.m.
Member Susi thanked the retiring teachers for their years of service and
dedication.
Chairman Caruso thanked the community for their overwhelming support of the
budget. He also thanked the faculty and staff for another great year.
