HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-05-30 12-179 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 12-1,72 Date: May 30th, 2012 Item/Subject: Order, Amending the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations for Non - Unionized Employees Responsible Department: Executive Commentary: This Order will amend the non-union Personnel Rules and Regulations regarding reductions in force. Presently full time employees whose positions are being eliminated and are subject to involuntary lay-off receive a two-week notice or immediate notice and two weeks of pay, in conjunction with any accumulated earned time (vacation, compensatory time, etc.) to which they are legally entitled. This amendment will provide employees with an opportunity to receive payment for up to one-third of their accumulated and unused sick leave, capped at forty days. Order, Amending the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations for Non -Unionized Employees By the City Council of the City of Bangor. ORDERED, THAT the City of Bangor Personnel Rules and Regulations for non -unionized employees are hereby amended by adding new sub -section 6.7.6 to Section 6.7, Reductions in Force as follows: 6.7.6 Any full-time employee whose position is eliminated in accordance with Section 6.7, Reductions in Force, and as a result will be subject to an involuntary layoff, shall be entitled to receive up to one third (1/3rd) of his/her accumulated sick leave not to exceed forty (40) days. Such payment shall be computed at the employee's current straight time hourly pay rate. To receive this benefit, the employee must be permanently laid off from City employment. This provision shall not be combined with nor apply to instances involving employees who are subject to lay-off, but choose to retire or transfer to another full-time city position in lieu of being laid off.
