HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-07-13 15-250 ORDERCOUNCIL ACTION Item No. 15-250 Date: July 13, 2015 Item/Subject: ORDER, Authorizing Purchase of Buses in the Amount of $850,990 under the Delaware State Contract Responsible Department: Community Connector Commentary: This order will authorize the purchase of two buses by piggybacking on a contract with the State of Delaware. The initial estimated cost per bus is $425,494. The FY 16 budget included local funding in the amount of $250,000 as a match to replace two Bangor buses. The additional funding will come from State and Federal sources. The State of Delaware bid was awarded to Gillig. The City currently has a number of Gillig buses in service and is pleased with their operation and maintenance. This approach will save significant City time and resources in maintenance of existing busses. Staff has reviewed the Delaware contract language to ensure that the contract meets the needs of Maine operators. In addition, staff followed up with South Portland, who used this same option last year and were very pleased. If approved, city staff will work with Gillig to modify the specifications and potentially lower the cost of the purchase. This request was reviewed and recommended for approval at the Finance Committee meeting of July 7, 2015. The contract award recommendation must be reviewed approved by the City Council as it is over $100,000.
