The meeting was called to order at.7:00 p:m. The Pledge of Allegiance followed. � A. 1. VOTED 7-0 to approve the Minutes of the Regu.lar Meetina of December 3, 20�1. B. There were no audience comments or requests for infornlation. C. Superintendent Robert Ervin advised the Committee of a homb scare at the William S. , Cohen School eaa-lier in the day. He also mentioned that he had made another presenta.tion on local assessment and the certification of achievement to the Policy Advisory Committee for Assessment in Augusta. Tl1e City Council will tour Bangor I�Cigh School on Tuesday, December 11, at 12:30. � � Committee Member Shubert reported on MSBA discussions of pro�osed changes to 20-A MRSA Chapters 125 and 127. Her extensive comments led to a broad discussion of concerns that have significant curricular, instructional, and financial implicatiQns. She � reported that due to widespread public criticism, a second round of hea,rings had been scheduled. The Superintendent.noted that he has developed a critical response for the Penquis Superantendents Association and will submit a similar analysis that is Bangor " specifi�. Committee Members Susa.n Caxlisle and Carolyn Szal expressed concern that rttles related to Vocational Educa�ion had been condensed to a rnention of Applied T,echnology and that the prescribed high school prob anz of studies left na room for vocational education. Superintendent Ervin described the development of Bevond 20QQ: A Plan for Educational I�nprovement in the Next Decade:Worlcang with administrators and faculty and building on tlie accoinplislunents of The Instxuctional Pla,n for the Year 2000, the Plan outlines Cores �alues, �ore �oinpetencies, �`hallei�ges, and Actior� Strategies. 'I'h.e 1°lar�reta.ins a central focus on academic excellence. Amendments were offered tl�a� vvill be incorporated into the final document.
