HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04-22 19-163 Order 04/22/201919-163 04/22/2019 19-163 Engineering Order N/A Title, Order Requesting to Waive the Bid Process and Execute a Contract with Sargent Corporation in the Amount of $157,145 for the May Street Drainage and Sewer Rehabilitation Project This order is seeking to waive the bid process and execute a contract with Sargent Corporation in the amount of $157,145 for the May Street Drainage and Sewer Rehabilitation Project. May Street is currently served by a combined sewer and storm drainage system installed in 1888. The pipe has failed and is due for replacement. Engineering staff approached Sargent Corporation for pricing, as they will be working with a private landowner on a retaining wall project along May Street. The project will involve the installation of a separate storm drain system and replacement of 130 feet of sanitary sewer. Sargent Corporation has submitted an itemized price of $157,145. Engineering has reviewed this price carefully, and found them to be very competitive. The unit prices for pipe installation and sewer structures are very comparable to recent bid prices, and all other itemized prices are appropriate, taking into consideration the size of the project. Sargent was also able to eliminate mobilization charges and reduce traffic control costs because they are working on another project immediately adjacent to this one. Funding for this project is available in the Sewer small projects budget ($65,000) and the Stormwater projects budget ($100,000). New Business 04/22/201919-163 CITY OF BANGOR ORDER 04/22/2019 19-163 Sprague Requesting to Waive the Bid Process and Execute a Contract with Sargent Corporation in the Amount of $157,145 for the May Street Drainage and Sewer Rehabilitation Project Whereas, May Street is currently served by a combined sewer and storm drainage system installed in 1888; and Whereas, The pipe has failed and is due for replacement; and Whereas, Sargent Corporation has a private contract to replace a crumbling retaining wall on May Street; and Whereas, Staff requested pricing from Sargent to complete the work while they are working on the retaining wall; and Whereas, Engineering staff determined that the pricing was appropriate for the work; and Whereas, from a logistical perspective it makes sense to have Sargent do the work while they are working on the wall. Be it Ordered by the City Council of the City of Bangor: That the Finance Director is hereby authorized to waive the bid process and enter into a contract with Sargent Corporation, in the amount of $157,145 for the May Street Drainage and Sewer Rehabilitation Project.
