To the Municipal Officers:
Reference is made to a petition received from Maine
Distributors requesting that the existing travel way of Coffey
Street be extended for a distance of 75 Seat in a westerly
direction, so as to permit the Petitioner to construct a retail
addition to the westerly end of their existing building, which
requires vehicle access which is separated from their existing
commercial entrance. The area has been examined, and an estimate
prepared for the roadway extension, as follows:
The proposed extension would consist of a 24 foot wide
travel way having a 24 inch gravel base and 3 inch bituminous
Cost of the extension 18 02,500.00. Of this amount, the City
wouid pay fifty percent, and in accordance with Chapter XII,
Artcle 12, Section 1.6.2 of the Yaws and Ordinances of the
City of Berger, the remaining fifty percent would be assessed
against the properties benefitted. Inasmuch as Maine Distributors
owns the land on both sides of Coffey Street in that location,
their estimated share would be $1,250.00. The Petitioner has
been advised of the estimated cost, and made aware that the
prepayment of the estimated private share will be required
prior to the start of construction, and is in favor of the
Project. Accordingly, inasmuch as the proposed roadway exten-
sion will result in further property development, it is recom-
mended that the construction be undertaken as soon as possible,
and that the necessary funds to cover the City's share be
appropriated.
Respectfully submitted,
