1. Council Order 85-82 "Write -Off -- 150 Years of Bangor Corporation
Receivables.--
The
eceivables."The Committee went over in detail the expenses incurred by the
150th Corporation and the bills still outstanding to the City
by the Corporation for 'services provided by the Police, Public
WOrks and Transit Division. The Finance Director provided
detailed listings of all the expenses and gave copies to the
Committee members.
The administration had prepared a proposed amendment to the
Council Order which is as follows:
"THAT the sum of $24,167.05 be transferred from the Contingent
Account (61-01) to Public Services -Electrical (52-32), Public
Services -Highway (52-43), Police -Patrol (30-03) and Motor
Pool -Bangor Transit (55-68) to, cover the above accounts
receivable write-off."
The Committee voted by a 2-1 vote to recommend passage of the
amendment to the City Council. Councilor Gass was opposed and
voted in the negative expressing concern that another group
will put on the same type of event next year andask the City
to pick up the tab. He also expressed concern over the fact
that downtown merchants didn't support the event.
Councilor McCarthy indicated that if the City were to enter
into a similar transaction again it would have to establish terms
that would assure the City of security.
Councilor Gass indicated that the only alternative he would
approve would be to write-off a sum up to $13,000 but no more.
