Special School Committee Election—June 12,2007
ACTION Motion Made and Seconded to Reconsider Order 07-041
Mr.Nick Bearce, urged the Council to support having a
Special Election to fill the seat since he feels that the cost of
$10,000 is a small amount to preserve democracy. He added
that this seat should be filled because they need another voice
on that committee.
Mr. Charlie Birkel expressed concern over misuse of Roberts Rules
of Order at the last meeting, and also urged Councilor Palmer
to refer to the Council Chair as Chair, rather than Mayor. Mr.
Birkel urged the Council to support a Special Election, and stated
that March was too early for the election, and that it would be preferable
if it were scheduled in June, but no later than that.
Mr.Dennis Marble suggested a March date for a Special Election,
since there is a steep learning curve for the budget.
Mr.Phil Locke stated that he supports having the special election
in March, but would take June ifMarch wasn't supported. He added
that the fact that the school committee members didn't show up at
this meeting was an argument for having an election, not against it.
Mr.Aaron Prill said that ifJune is reconsidered, then March would also
be back on the plate. He also pointed out that the school committee members
were not in attendance, which indicated that they just want it all to go away.
