HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BANGOR
SPECIAL MEETING OF January 11, 2016
MINUTES

Chair Mallar called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.
Minutes
Item No. 1: Approval of HPC meeting minutes from December 10, 2015
Member Rettenmaier moved to accept the Minutes of December 10, 2015 with some further
proofing;
Checking the spellings of “Fibrex” and “roughed”
Commission Consultant Pullen also noted a few corrections;
Adding the words prior to Shaw House’s involvement to the Wellington testimony
Adding Carol Whitney’s title “Executive Director”
And correcting the spelling of Wilfred Mansur’s name.
Member Burgoyne seconded and the Commission voted unanimously to approve the Minutes
as amended.
Review Findings of Facts
Item No. 2: To review Findings of Facts in December 10, 2015 Denial of
Certificate of Appropriateness for demolition of a building at 635
State St.
Assistant City Solicitor Paul Nicklas noted the Commission should have copies of the latest
version of the Findings of Facts and Conclusions.
The Commission noted to include the date “2005” as the date in which the Shaw House
acquired the Waterworks property in conclusion #3.
Secondly, the Commission would include that “the Commission offered to work with Shaw
House to seek Certified Local Government (CLG) grant funding but they declined the offer.”

Member Rettenmaier moved to accept the Findings as amended. Member Burgoyne
seconded and the Commission voted four to none to accept the findings as amended.
Item No. 3: To review Findings of Facts in December 10, 2015 Denial of
Certificate of Appropriateness for canopy changes at 5 High St.
The Commission noted to include in the conclusions that the application was for a
“replacement canopy”
The Commission also noted to change the conclusions to cite Standards of 148 13 (A) and
(E).
Member Burgoyne moved to accept the findings as amended. Member Perkins seconded
sand the Commission voted four in favor and none opposed to accept the Findings as
amended.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:28 P.M.
