The Penjajawoc Marsh/Mall Commission met Friday, November 2, 2007 in the City Council Chambers. Chair Shep
Harris called the meeting to order shortly after 1:00 p.m. The October 5, 2007 meeting summary was reviewed and
unanimously approved with noted revisions. The revised version will be distributed.
George Elliott and Jim Hinds outlined changes to the Penjajawoc Management Plan Draft. Jackie Hewett raised a
question about the form of the draft’s language being past tense and what we hope to do versus making specific
reference to our process to date and what we will do. Ed suggested that these concerns could be addressed with
changes in verbage and sentence structure. Jim Hinds made a motion to support the plan, in concept, with Ed to
make some revisions, which was seconded by Lucy. There was discussion under the section “other management
issue” of water quality monitoring and using stream team in the Penjajawoc Marsh, below landfill and possible
tributaries, which Ed will include. Passed unanimously.
Lucy mentioned concern about the unresolved issue of how to deal with Open Space/Subdivision, location of Open
Space relative to the Marsh and how this all fits together, etc. This item will appear on the next agenda for further
discussion.
George stated Wende Mahaney and Ron Joseph will meet with the Penjajawoc Management Plan/Land
Subcommittee on Thursday, November 29, 2007.
Other business discussed was the concept of establishing a trail on Widewaters/Home Depot landscape berm. Kevin
Kane was supportive and stated permission would be needed from Home Depot and someone else would have to
gain any additional approvals, etc. Suggestion was made that perhaps Home Depot’s “Kaboom” program could help.
Tom asked about the report at the Bangor Land Trust annual meeting regarding inventory, Lucy gave an overview
and summary.
Meeting Adjourned at approximately 2:30 p.m.
